With its early beginning dating back to 1978, the HOTEL BARAHI has gone onto become the epitome of a success story right from the heart of Lakeside. The past 38 years has seen the family-run hotel go from strength to strength, having experienced the early tourism boom and at present, its own growth with the employment of over 300 people across the Barahi Group of Hotels and Restaurants. Pokhara is the second largest tourist destination in Nepal and The Barahi Hotel is located in the lakeside area which is the main tourist hub. The Phewa lake is just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. We have a total of 2 suites, 32 Super Deluxe and 38 Deluxe rooms spread between 3 buildings overlooking the swimming pool. 5 conference halls of a varied capacity are also within the premises together with 4 dining establishments. The Barahi Group is one of the rapidly expanding hotel chain in Nepal and this team is led by Mr. Hari Poudel the Group Chairman who has been steering the group ever since it’s start in 1993.
A person of simple background and a graduate in Sanskrit and Economics Mr. Poudel started his career as a school teacher. In 1979 he decided to try his hand in business and started The Paradise Guest House in Pokhara. Pokhara those days was already establishing herself as a Touristic hub for treks. Displaying a rare skill in business entrepreneurship, his hotel venture turned out to be a success and by 1993 he laid the foundation of The Barahi Group by establishing The Barahi Hotel in the lake side Pokhara.
From then the journey for The Barahi Group has been continuously uphill. The Byanjan Restaurant in 2010, The Barahi Jungle Lodge in 2012 and The Sarangkot Mountain Lodge in 2019 have already hit the scene. In the pipeline are The Barahi Sedi Hotel, a luxury 5 star in Sedi Pokhara with 150 rooms, The Vastupa Hotel in Pumdi, Pokhara with 50 rooms and The Bodhi Barahi in Lumbini with 40 rooms and a hotel in Kathmandu
A Social worker , Mr. Poudel has been active in several organizations including The Red Cross Society, Nepal Handicrafts Association and has been the founding member of The Gandaki Medical College. He has also been the recipient of various certificates and awards for his philanthropic activities.
Extremely fit at 70 Mr. Poudel has an active life style and regimented diet. He walks, swims and practices Yoga and meditation for inner peace and consolidation of thoughts. His personal life is devoid of any luxury and he still believes in maintaining the simple life style of his youth.
