Barahi Hospitality & Leisure has become one of Nepal’s leading hotel and hospitality brands. Established in 1993 when our Chairman, Mr. Hari Prasad Paudel laid the foundations of The Hotel Barahi Pokhara in Lakeside, it’s the story of a family business finding success through hard work and high standards of service.
Mr. Paudel started his career as a school teacher after graduating with a degree in Sanskrit. A local Pokhareli boy, by the late 70s, he could see that Pokhara was a burgeoning hub for tourism as the base of many treks around the Annapurna region. He decided to venture into business and opened The Paradise Guest House in Pokhara in 1979.
The 10 room hotel, centrally located in Lakeside, flourished over the years as the popularity of Pokhara grew as a tourist destination. By the early 90s Mr. Paudel was ready to expand and in 1993, he started building The Hotel Barahi Pokhara using the original Paradise building as the main reception.

The Barahi Group is one of the rapidly expanding hotel chain in Nepal and this team is led by Mr. Hari Prasad Paudel the Group Chairman who has been steering the group ever since it's beginning in 1993.
A person of simple background and a graduate in Sanskrit and Economics ,Mr. Paudel started his career as a school teacher. In 1979 he decided to try his hand in business and started The Paradise Guest House in Pokhara.
Pokhara those days was already establishing herself as a Touristic hub for treks. Displaying a rare skill in business entrepreneurship, his hotel venture turned out to be a success and by 1993 he laid the foundation of The Barahi Group by establishing The Barahi Hotel in the lake side Pokhara.
Since then, the family business has expanded. In 2010 Byanjan Restaurant opened in Lakeside, just around the corner from Hotel Barahi Pokhara. Barahi Jungle Lodge in Chitawn opened in 2012. Back in the Pokhara region, Sarangkot Mountain Lodge opened its doors in 2019 and the chic city boutique property, Aabas Pokhara opened in 2021.
And 2023 sees the grand opening of Hotel Barahi Kathmandu with 80 rooms. Other luxury projects in the pipeline see the Barahi Hospitality & Leisure expand its reach across Nepal further with resorts in Mustang and Lumbini. And returning to the Pokhara region, a new 150 room, luxury 5 star hotel is currently under construction in Sedi.
With a great interest in social work, Mr. Paudel has been actively involved with organisations such as Nepal Red Cross Society and Nepal Handicrafts Association. He was a founding member the Gandaki Medical College and Gandaki Bikas Bank. As a result of his philanthropic work, he’s received a number of awards and recognitions over the years.
Now in his 70s, Mr. Paudel remains fit and healthy due to an active lifestyle, which includes walking, mediation and Yoga and a good diet. In spite of his success, Mr. Paudel retains an appreciation of a simple and peaceful life.
