Mountains at your Reach
The trek to Australian Camp located on a ridge 2055 m above sea level is one of the best places to experience both mountains and trek without venturing far. The day return trip offers a spectacular views of Himalayan ranges like Machapuchare, (6993m) Annapurna South (7219m), Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Hiunchuli (6440m).
The trip begins with a drive to Kande (1770m) for about 1 hr from the lodge and a stone staircase trail of 2 hours climb reaches Australian Camp earlier known as Thulo Kharka in Nepali. The return trail is through a forest with rich bird life which brings you to Dhampus the largest village in the area with ethnic slate roofed houses.
You have a choice to drive back from Dhampus or from Phedi an hour long trek from Dhampus. We recommend cotton trousers or track pants, t shirts, and shoes with thick soles and good cleats to facilitate walking. Sunglasses, sun hats and hiking sticks will add to your comfort.
Your accompanying naturalist will fill your day with interesting stories and carry Water, Packed Lunch.
